INTERNATIONAL COLOUR FORECAST: Carpets & Rugs 2011

Posted: 9/03/2010

The influence of colour impacts greatly on our lives.  We are all drawn to colour, whether consciously or sub-consciously, and should not underestimate the powerful effect it can have in transforming our personal environment.   It is important we surround ourselves with what we like, identifying with the personal preferences and tastes which appeal to our emotions.

The point of presenting new trends is to reflect what is happening in the world at large and to explain why styles change.  Cultural and economic conditions have played a significant role in recent years, and although there is cautious optimism, they will continue to affect tendencies for the foreseeable future.  As a result, consumers are now far more discerning when it comes to home décor.   The growing importance placed on interior lifestyle has led to a much increased choice of decorating options.

Emerging colours are ever more influenced by the natural world.   Organic materials are replacing glossy alternatives preferred before the economic downturn, identifying with reassurance and longevity, heritage and tradition.   These trends are becoming the backbone of new modern homes.  Eclecticism has become a trend within itself, ie. individual expression through colours we like and feel comfortable with, and surrounding ourselves with styles and possessions which make us feel good.  The ‘new modern’ is synonymous with cocooning where new design meets a hand-made culture.

The Wools of New Zealand interior colour predictions for 2011 incorporate an inspirational palette of 100 evocative shades, dyed on Laneve™ New Zealand wool.   The company recently launched the integrity mark Laneve™ to offer assurances regarding the traceability and sustainability of New Zealand wool.

The exceptional whiteness and purity of Laneve™ New Zealand wool not only makes it the best choice for dyeing but also demonstrates the dynamic clarity and lustre emanating from beautiful tones illustrated in the colour forecast.

The palette, created by leading colourist Joanna Ramsden and containing luxurious shades of white – delicate iced pastels, classic neutrals, sophisticated naturals, chic mid-tones, rich and exotic earth shades, fashionable vibrant brights, and deep mysterious darks, is now available either as boxed wool poms or a fan card
